The SMT 4000D is a microprocessor
based signal processor designed to process signals from the SMT high
speed AC LVDT. Thickness readings are presented to the operator through
the six digit display. Material variation from desired thickness
is also displayed through the large analog swing meter mounted above
the display.
An on-board message display assists the operator to enter nominal thickness,
upper and lower thickness limits, data collection parameters, and setting
the analog meter range. During calibration, the technician is prompted
for samples and advised of errors through plain english messages.
The on-board data classifier continuously monitors material thickness
and indicates out-of-tolerance conditions through LED's mounted on the
front of the amplifier. Digital signals are also routed to the rear
panel for connection to an optional dry contact relay interface.
The amplifier has a built in data collection package. Data is collected
through an operator adjustable time base. After collection is complete,
a histogram and statistical calculation can be printed based on the
data collected
- Continuous digital display
of actual thickness
- Analog indication of thickness
deviation from desired thickness
- Built-in high/low limit
classifier with optional dry contact relay output
- On-board message display
allows for easy setup and calibration
- Simple three step calibration
sequence with no tools required Built-in data collection package
- Metric mode of operation
Built-in RS232-C communications port
- Built-in analog output
The SMT 4000D gage amplifier
makes a wide range of data available through the serial port. The programmability
of applications like Microsoft Excel and Word make it possible to automate
setup and data collection using the serial port. The SMT 4000D Amplifier
Driver allows 32 bit Windows programs to gather data and set up one
or more gage amplifiers. The package includes:
-
SMT serial
communication library
-
Sample spreadsheet
for Microsoft Excel which takes a reading from the gage each second
-
Application
note on the sample spreadsheet
-
Source code
for Visual Basic or VBA
-
Two hours
of phone support
-
A 32 bit
Windows operating system (95, NT, etc.)
-
A serial
port connected to each 4000D amplifier. Typically, you will need a
serial cable, a "null modem" adapter, and a female-female
gender changer to make the connection.
-
Microsoft
Excel version 7.0 or later (e.g., from the Microsoft Office 95 or
Office 97 suite) is required to run the sample spreadsheet documented
in the application note.
